hi there. i gonna get a scanner. but i've totally no idea on what type of scanner should i go for. those sighted can't really help me up cause what we want and what they think is totally different. any good scanner to recommend me? thanks alot. cheers: season.
It's really not that important which scanner you get. The important thing is the OCR (optical character recognition) software you'd get with the scanner, that's the software that can change a scanned page into text that you can read with Jaws or whatever screen reader you have. Any scanner really willl do the job honestly, HP scanners are pretty good, but it's all about software .
agreed wildabrew. You can settle for the ocr software you get with the scanner or you can go the whole hogg and get something like k1000 which will work with certain scanners, but is a fantastic scanning and information access package. it really depends waht you want your scanner for.
hi, should have asked me. Hahahah, well, HP and ... can't remember the name will do. And, they do not cost much. The most important thing is the software as they said. Call me and I shall explain further. Smile!
thanks folks for the ideas. can i have more info? i have open book 7.0. a friend told me that not every scanner can use it. any comment about this? yes HP is good but,.... any other? or maybe like what kind of HP scanner should i go for? basicly i need scanner to scann text book or book with full of word. i been inform that not every scanner is sensertive for words. thanks for the help. thank you

Like everyone else said already, it doesn't really matter what kind of scanner you use. But I personally notice that the Epson ones are faster than the HP ones. I used to have an HP one at home, while my college uses the Epson ones. The HP one took a long time to scan, it seemed like 15 to 20 seconds, and once you pressed scan, if you wanted to stop it, you'd still have to wait. But now I have an Epson one. With the Epson scanners, they are much more faster, taking around 5 to 10 seconds to scan, and if you want to stop it, you just hit scan again and it stops almost immediately. So with an Epson, you can get more scanning done. *smiles* This is just my own experiences I noticed though. (The OCR program I use is OpenBook, and my school uses Kurzweil, but we are now both using Epson scanners.)

I agree. I used to have an HP at home, and I also use an Epson at school. I like the Epson quite a bit better.
